Stephen Segaller

Stephen Segaller is Vice President, Programming, at The WNET Group in New York City. He oversees all national programming produced by WNET for PBS national broadcast. This includes Great PerformancesNatureAmerican MastersSecrets of the Dead, and Amanpour & Company; documentary series such as Women, War & Peace, Time For School, Inside The Met, and presenter led series: Shakespeare Uncovered; Ascent of Money,  War of the Worlds and Networlds, all with Niall Ferguson;  Many Rivers To Cross, and Finding Your Roots, both with Dr Henry Louis Gates, Jr.; and The Story of the Jews, and in 2025 The Holocaust 80 Years On – both with Sir Simon Schama – among others.   

As a film-maker in the 1990s he produced & directed Triumph of the Nerds and Nerds 2.0.1 – A Brief History of the Internetfor PBS and Channel 4, as well as Return to the Lion’s Den with Terry Anderson, for CNN and PBS. He joined WNET in 1999 as head of News & Public Affairs programming, creating the international documentary series Wide Angle and the investigative journalism series Exposē. In 2013, Segaller helped to expand the PBS NewsHour broadcast in creating PBS NewsHour Weekend newscasts, and in 2018 launched the unique collaboration with CNN, Amanpour & Company – produced by CNN in London and by WNET in New York.
